Traditional hay-making in the Carpathian mountains (Romania)

Between 1988 and 1996, the Forum developed a network of European scientists, conservationists, and policy makers which interacts with farmers, land managers and agricultural departments through major conferences, a six monthly newsletter and a series of targeted seminars and workshops.

The period since then saw the further development of these activities, a crucial time for nature conservation on farmland with the second phase of CAP reforms and subsequent Mid-Term Review of the CAP, enlargement of the European Union and development of Natura 2000.

To achieve it aims, the EFNCP organises conferences, targeted seminars and workshops. Many EFNCP meetings include farm visits providing an opportunity to speak to the farmers and managers. The EFNCP also conducts research into the relationships between High Nature Value farming areas and their associated heritage value. The work of the EFNCP is publicised through its website and through the production of a newsletter (La Cañada) which is widely distributed within Europe.

The Forum is one of four environmental NGO networks (along with BirdLife, the European Environmental Bureau and WWF) which is represented on DG Agriculture's series of Advisory Groups.
