High Nature Value Farming in South-Eastern Europe

The importance of low-intensity agricultural systems and the resulting High Nature Value farming landscapes for biodiversity is widely recognised today.

The south-eastern European countries, from Turkey to Croatia, currently not EU-members, have an exceptionally large amount of HNV farming area. This importance lead to the creation of a regional EFNCP-office in Bulgaria with two project officers: Yanka Kazakova, Vyara Stefanova

EFNCP activities in South-East Europe have included:

• Seminar introducing HNV farmland concept to the region

• South-East Europe HNV farming network

• Brochure ‘HNV Farming in the Western Balkans’ (available in 5 languages)

• SEE Regional HNV Farming Policy Workshop

• Support to the Elaboration of a National Agri-environment Programme for Turkey
