How we work
The European Forum on Nature Conservation and Pastoralism (EFNCP) was established in 1988 as a European network of scientists, conservationists and policy makers which interacts with farmers, land managers and with agricultural and environmental authorities.
The founders saw a need to bridge gaps between the practical realities of low-intensity farming and nature conservation on the one hand, and the formulation of policies that drive rural land use, such as the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) and environmental regulations, on the other.
EFNCP is a non-profit organisation, functioning legally as a company limited by guarantee under English law. The governing body is the Board of Directors, which is elected at the General Meeting by the Members, who own the organisation. One of the Directors is also the Company Secretary.
Besides the Members, the membership includes the original individuals who founded the Forum and all the Directors. The legal basis of the Forum is contained in its statutes - the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The Forum is keen to work with anyone who shares our vision. Individuals who wish to assist in our work should contact one of the Directors. Organisations also have the option of becoming formal Members of the Forum and sharing in our decision-making processes.
